Moments with your loved ones

Ten Days with Dad by author Mark J Resnick is a poignant journey. It is a book of moments. Moments that we cherish, always. The family get-togethers, events in school, and other adventures that go with growing up. Growing up had its challenges for Mark and his brothers. The separation of his parents tore the brothers asunder. The boys in the family could not comprehend the reasons why their mother walked out of their lives. The fact that Mark’s father was never forthcoming with the reasons for the break-up, left their questions unanswered.  Mark faced many emotional challenges in life. He had his share of rejections in his career and his love life. His best mate committed suicide. The cliché that life goes on is apt for the author. The author achieved success in his job. He married and raised a happy family.

The author’s life hit a roller-coaster when his father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. He was living those ten days with his father, the suffering, the heart-wrenching process of seeing his parent slipping into an abyss. The realization, that you cannot control the uncontrollable, there is a time when you must let go. There is a time when you turn that grief into strength. The strength to be compassionate, be able to empathize, be able to inspire, and be inspired.

I found the book inspiring and thought-provoking. The descriptions of events were so relatable. I am sure I can speak for others as well. Haven’t we faced similar challenges in our lives? The subtle humor and the ability to see the funny side of things. I found the book very endearing.

The loss of a parent is unbearable. The aftermath brings in poignancy and melancholy. The memories are our treasures that remain.

I will recommend this book to readers who introspect. Readers who believe in evolving as better human beings. The ability to acknowledge the divinity and goodness in other human beings. An unputdownable book.
