A Do – Do Nothing Day

A day off from work. Rain drizzles, not being able to decide when to stop. It is a do-do-nothing day for me at home. My backyard garden is happy with the drizzle. The bird shower is filling up for my feathery friends. It is a sight to see how the hierarchy works in the bird world. The alpha bird has a shower first before the others can have a dip. Recently the water dragon paid us a visit. It is fearless and looks straight into your eyes. It refuses to budge an inch. The other day my daughter was scared out of her wits when she found the water dragon at the window staring at her. There have been Magpies, the Butcher Bird, the Busy Miners, and Crows who come for a drink and a shower during summers. The Crows in particular are an ingenious lot. They come in with a hard crust bread in their beaks. They dip the hard bread in the bird shower to soften the bread for them to eat. In the process, they spoil the water and I have to fill the bird shower with clean water.

Many years ago, we were privileged to be visited by a Carpet Python on our garden fence. The python, as politicians do sat on the fence for a long time before deciding its leanings. We had a decorative frog on the fence. The python thought it was lunch. The good fellow slithered away a tad disappointed with us humans for being so artificial.

Many people in our complex have sighted the python. It is our resident python.
